Kinky Friedman & Dale Watson at My Fathers Place Roslyn

Kinky Friedman & Dale Watson

Kinky Friedman is returning to My Father’s Place at the Roslyn Hotel from the Hill Country of Texas, y’all!  And bonus, he’s bringing fellow Texas country music maverick and outlaw, Dale Watson in what will undoubtedly go down as the most spectacular duo appearance in the Lehigh Valley this Spring!  We’re honored that they chose Godfrey’s as a stop for their “Lone Star Legends –Long Tales and Short Songs Tour”.

Kinky Friedman is a significant and notable musician, singer, songwriter, novelist, columnist, cowboy, irreverent humorist, politician, pro-marijuana activist, cigar manufacturer, tequila maven, dog rescuer, chess master and Peace Corp veteran.

This past summer, Kinky released his first album of all-new original material in four decades – Circus of Life.

From Rolling Stone: “The record is chock-full of Texas-sized tall tales, atmospheric autobiography, Leonard Cohen-worthy musings and the vocal delivery of his fellow Lone Star statesman, Willie Nelson.  It was Nelson who urged Friedman to fire up his songwriting engines once again. As the story goes, Nelson telephoned his friend one afternoon, while Friedman was watching an old Matlock rerun. ‘That is a sure sign of depression, Kinky,’ Nelson said, while the show blared in the background. ‘Turn Matlock off and start writing.’ Friedman did as instructed, whipping up an album of dry wit and woozy beauty. The title track walks a familiar line between tragedy and comedy, with Friedman likening a lovers’ doomed relationship to a Barnum & Bailey-worthy carnival. He gets by with a little help from his friends, too, including more than a few Texans.  The title track features Augie Meyers from Sir Douglas Quintet, Joe Cirotti and the incomparable Mickey Raphael on harmonica. ‘It is a song that was written mostly between the lines,’ says Kinky.”

Dale Watson, keeper of the true country music flame, latest album Call Me Insane, was recorded in Austin with veteran producer Lloyd Maines (Robert Earl Keen, Jerry Jeff Walker, etc.). The Austin-based honky-tonker carries on in the tradition of Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson with his “Ameripolitan” brand of American roots music.

Dubbed “the silver pompadoured, baritone beltin’, Lone Star beer drinkin’, honky-tonk hellraiser” by The Austin Chronicle, Dale is a veteran touring artist and consummate entertainer, on the road more than 300 days a year.

Dale has flown the flag for classic honky-tonk for over two decades. He’s christened his brand of American roots “Ameripolitan” to differentiate it from current crop of Nashville-based pop country. The Alabama-born, Texas-raised Dale Watson may be the hardest working entertainer today and is rapidly approaching legendary status.  He is a country music maverick, a true outlaw who stands alongside Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and George Strait as one of the finest country singers and songwriters from the Lone Star State.

The event is finished.
