Words Like Fresh Skin
Featuring the students of the Department of Theatre.
Words Like Fresh Skin immersively follows the life of Edna St. Vincent Millay from childhood, to her formative years as a student at Vassar, and finally to her death. A writer, activist, and feminist, Millay was the third woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry. She sold out auditoriums in the 1920s, but by her death in 1950, Millay was all-but-forgotten. This interactive and experiential journey explores the family dynamics and romantic relationships that shaped Millay’s life, inspired her writing, and, perhaps, led to her death. Words Like Fresh Skin offers a window into Edna St. Vincent Millay’s complex soul and the (mis)identities of an artist.
Due to the immersive nature of this production, audience members show be prepared to stand, move around to various rooms and sit in different sized spaces for extended periods of time.
Words like Fresh Skin is the first immersive production staged at the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center. This unique theatrical experience leads audiences on a winding journey through the corridors of the Adelphi PAC as they navigate the story of Millay’s life. This interactive event is one-of-a-kind, and not to be missed!
